With its Cryovac system, Sealed Air of Herlev, Denmark, offers a multitude of packaging solutions for the most various products. As such, the printable BDF shrink film or foil with high barrier capability has been developed to cover pieces of meat placed in trays. Such packaging, the manufacturer points out, is robust, prevents exudation and offers long storability, while still displaying the traditional looks of store-packaged products intended to arouse shoppers’ interest. The Lid-Sys tray closure system comes as a thin, transparent anti-fogging film which, offering high barrier characteristics, can be used to enclose foam or hard trays with a protective atmosphere. Also quoting from the company’s product statement, the built-in shrink capacity provides for a smooth and shining pack surface with great retail shopper appeal. In addition, the flat lid suggests itself for printing or labeling. Further to Sealed Air’s range, push-proof laminates are available as well.

And further down the line, Mirabella is yet another tray closure concept which, based on the patented combination of a dual shrink closure and a barrier tray, prevents meat products from discoloration when coming in contact with the dual closure at the top. Explaining that benefit, Sealed Air points to the permanent oxygen circulation between the two films where the bottom one is permeable to oxygen while the top one serves as an oxygen barrier. On the bottom line, that concept is to let a lower tray height become a practical possibility.

Next, the Darfresh vacuum skin packaging system offers a wide selection from upper and lower barrier foils. The “second skin” effect, which accurately follows the natural form contours of the product inside, combines safe sealing with a high degree of attractivity, making for great shopper appeal. In addition, Darfresh also permits vertical display of hygienic packs, where nothing can ooze out and where meat’s good taste is positively preserved.

Continuing to quote from Sealed Air’s product statement, the Simple Steps vacuum skin packaging system is suitable for all kinds of safe microwaving, from cooking to warming and all the way to thawing. As such, Simple Steps allows simple cooking in the microwave. And thanks to a self-ventilation function (steam release) the food is cooked under pressure and can subsequently be served directly in the tray, thereby combining simple and comfortable cooking with vacuum technology’s long lasting freshness. As an additional note, imprints in up to six colors can be applied on both sides of this packaging material.

Sealed Air has these printable Cryovac shrink bags with barrier and vacuum available in consumer-friendly sizes. Opening is easy, and the packaging process as such is safe, thanks to the vacuum technology employed. As a final note, the manufacturer points out that retraceability, complete flexibility in terms of pack size and pallet use, plus cost-effective solutions for automated processes, can all be translated into practice with the Cryovac shrink bags without a problem. www.sealedair.com
